Principal Investigator

Shang Jia, PhD
Shang obtained his BS in Chemistry at Peking University and earned his PhD degree at the University of California, Berkeley. He performed dye research as a postdoc at the University of California, Los Angeles and worked as a research assistant professor before joining Rutgers-Newark. His hobby outside the lab includes connecting, tearing down and messing up electronic devices.
Postdocs

Tang Fung Kit, PhD
Kit has been working on supramolecular chemistry and fluorescent chemosensors during his PhD. He joined as a postdoctoral researcher in January 2025, his research focuses on engineering NIR fluorophores for bio applications. In his leisure time, he likes cooking, running, reading and playing computer games.
Graduate Students

Xinyuan Li
Xinyuan’s academic journey began with his BS in Biochemistry from the University of Delaware in 2021. He then applied his knowledge at SINOVAC, a vaccine company at the forefront of producing COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic. His career trajectory significantly changed when he earned his MS in Biotechnology from Syracuse University in 2023. Before joining Dr Jia’s Lab at Rutgers-Newark, he gained valuable experience as a research support specialist at Dr Yamin Li’s lab in the SUNY Upstate Medical University’s pharmacology department. Beyond his professional pursuits, Xinyuan’s diverse interests and hobbies, such as playing video games, strumming his guitar, or fishing, reveal his multifaceted personality.

Wenjun Liu
Wenjun earned her BS in Biological Sciences from Dali University in 2023. Following graduation, she worked as a research assistant at Anhui Normal University for one year. Outside the lab, Wenjun enjoys playing badminton and traveling.
